New interviews with

December 2, 2012

There are a ton of new Dave Lawrence interviews, and with some major artists, too. Lucky you can hear all of it in the player on the right. Here are some of the interesting people he talked story with this fall:

Save it for later: The English Beat are back with a new boxed set called The Complete Beat, and Dave Wakeling, the famous voice of the band, called up brother Dave for a raucous laugh a thon where they dealt out the cards on all the old stories, how the band connected with radio legend John Peel, the story behind Pete Townshend covering Save it for Later (you’ll never believe who was with Pete when he called Dave Wakeling to find out how to play the song!), details on how they did the videos. Too much fun to legitimately be called work! This was in late November, just in time for the holiday, mates!

Hear part two and part three of that, too.

If you like ukulele, you obviously like Jake Shimabukuro. He was in the studio with Dave and they recorded a radio special during this half hour of talking and playing music. Very upscale. Maybe button your shirt? Just recorded in Nov. 2012.

See part two here.

Sublime! Now ‘With Rome’ and DL again talked with Rome when they played Honolulu in November. Here is the video of them chilling out on Rome’s balcony. Super cool! Doesn’t get any mellower:

Chicago are coming to the Blaisdell Arena and Dave spoke with one of them, the drummer Tris Imboden who was with Kenny Loggins, another island core music artist, and it was in November sometime. He’s one of the many talented “session” drummers and has played for everyone from Neil Diamond to Roger Daltrey recording music. He used to live here so it was a nice chat.

Jah Rastafari! Stephen Marley is in the house! Look out. A special November interview on the phone with one of Bob’s children. Quite a fun call.

Tom Moffatt is a legend in Hawaii and Dave spoke with him in Nov. 2012 about Elvis Presley, who Tom is famous in Hawaii for presenting in concert a long time ago. He is playing the video of the Elvis Presley Aloha From Hawaii movie and Dave is seen in this video discussing it with Tom, at HPR.

Also a nice photo with Tom Moffatt the concert promoter and Dave Lawrence:

If you like Bonnie Raitt, Taj Mahal or Dr. John, this is one of their keyboardists, Jon Cleary, who Dave had on the show one day before his concert in Honolulu around Halloween:

Maybe you saw this guy on with Howard Stern or on TV shows, it’s Craig Gass the comedian, who visited HPR in October 2012.

Michael McDonald returned to Honolulu and Dave spoke on the phone with him in a very fun new call in! Here is a photo from October 2012 at the Blaisdell Concert Hall after show:Dave with Michael McDonald Oct 2012

Guitarist Joe Bonamassa called in to the show in October.

Jazz legend Eddie Palmieri spoke to Dave on the phone one day before a brief stop in Honolulu in Oct. 2012! http://eddiepalmierimusic.com/wp-content/Cimy_Header_Images/0/Flash%201.jpg

Theory of a Deadman played at the Republik in September and their singer Tyler spoke with Dave backstage. Take a look at the video:

It’s Capt. Good N Plenty with plenty of good news from the Dave Lawrence interview scene: A truckload of funk pulled in, apparently, and Sir Elton John brought his band to Hawaii again! Dave Lawrence speaks with his drummer and guitar player of four decades, Davey and Nigel.

Then there was recent island visitor Mr. Chris Isaak who was Mr. Lawrence’s guest and you can hear a fun conversation with those two. And as if that wasn’t enough Maceo Parker and Fred Wesley come with the serious FUNK. Dave has a blast with the guys who popped the horns in the JBs and brought the scalpel to Dr. Funkenstein’s instrument kit.

AIRBORNE TOXIC EVENT! No need for alarm, however. They write catchy songs sort of like U2 or Radiohead, and are coming to Hawaii. They talked with DL and it is online in the DL interview library from 2011.

We will post a 2012 library soon, as they are stacking up over at DAVE LAWRENCE ONLINE . COM.

Hoo-ah and out.

LISTEN TO new interviews from Dave Lawrence: Sammy Hagar, Sublime, REO Speedwagon & more!

December 20, 2011

Lt. North Shore Grooves is in the house with a run down of some of the new chit chats available to hear and even download online.

First of all, we say HOO-AH to all the warriors back from the latest (AND LAST) go round in the sandpit. At ease, y’all. It’s time to chill. Biggest respect and remembrance to all who did not make it back, and more so to the brave and outstanding among us who carry the scars of fighting for this country. We owe you a lot. Welcome back. Best to you and yours from us.

Now, you find yourself here with a lot of treats to enjoy on the music front. Don’t get me wrong, the airwaves in Honolulu are sounding good each afternoon 4pm to 6pm on 88.1 here in the city and it’s online across the state and in the other cities with their own signal. DL is offering a lot of across the board insanity for those starved for music radio with conversations! Check it: Sammy Hagar, REO Speedwagon, Sublime, Chris Isaak, and Donavon Frankenreiter all recently. Here are some videos actually>>>>>

Coming soon is his new video interview with Dave Mason, too, recorded in December at the Blaisdell Arena.

There are more to hear at his site, DAVELAWRENCEONLINE.COM. Also at DL’s Hawaii Public Radio page. There’s the DL new releases blog, too, which features a new interview with Kenny Wayne Shepherd.

Mahalo, and again, welcome home to all our brothers and sisters from the sandpit. Hoo-ah!
